The Day of Sun

The world was on fire. And I couldn’t help but watch it burn. Para, a nineteen year-old Grounder must make a vital decision-stay and burn with everything she knows and loves or try to find a way off her lifeless planet before it is consumed by fire. Hundreds of years in the future, humanity hiding from a crumbling ozone layer, has retreated into the crevices of Earth. Now, these Grounders are forced to wait for the inevitable, a fate their ancestors named The Day of Sun, a day where the Sun will transform into a red giant and consume life itself. This fate, realized all too soon, takes motion when fire sets ablaze across the only window the Grounders have to the above world. This historic day starts a ripple of panic in Para as the holy day is set in motion. She vows with every fiber of her being that she will give everything to make sure her family stays safe.
